Green Procurement
The U.S. government has accelerated the purchase of green ICT equipment to lower costs and employ its purchasing power to drive sustainability advancements in the ICT sector. Governments everywhere, along with major private sector customers and institutional consumers (e.g., hospitals, universities, health care systems, etc.), now specify green standards when buying ICT products. Manufacturers are increasingly rewarded (or punished) in the marketplace based on their sustainability policies and practices. Green Cognition has been engaged on ICT green procurement for over 12 years and we know all the policy angles and key players across the spectrum.
Highlights
- Advising clients on how best to navigate the complexities of federal green procurement initiatives, to include providing guidance on implementation and assessing customer demands in the marketplace.
- Met with officials from the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Office of Management and Budget to press for reforms to the federal government's green procurement requirements (2018).
- Met in Beijing with officials from China's National Institute of Standardization to review China's green procurement initiatives (2018).
- Testified to Congress in 2013 in a hearing on "IT Procurement and Disposal: Application of the Federal Government's Green Policies in the Life Cycle Management of its IT Assets"
- Served on the original EPEAT Implementation Team (2005-2006) and has continues to remain actively engaged on EPEAT program implementation and related standards-development activities.
