Energy Efficiency

With billions of electronic devices already in use - and billions more coming online via the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) - the importance of product energy efficiency will skyrocket. Regulators, utilities, NGOs and consumers continue to press for greater energy efficiency to contain energy use and reduce associated carbon emissions. Green Cognition has deep experience on the policy and technical issues related to energy efficiency for electronic products, as well as strong connections within the U.S. EPA EnergyStar program, the California Energy Commission and other key regulatory agencies.

• Met with key Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss server energy efficiency protocols and advocate for recognition of industry norms (2018).
• Led successful negotiations that convinced U.S. EPA to remove "non-energy attributes" from the EnergyStar specifications and embark on a cooperative program with the ICT sector on system-wide energy use.
• Engaged with U.S. EPA on the political and policy aspects of the EnergyStar program; supervised the ICT sector team that developed technical input for specifications including computers and imaging equipment.
• Oversaw the ICT team that reached a landmark agreement with the California Energy Commission and the NGO community to set ambitious but achievable energy limits on computers and displays; quoted in The New York Times and San Diego Union Tribune.
